What Does Islam and Christianity Have in Common? 
While the religious beliefs of Islam and Christianity are often in conflict, there are also many similarities between the two. Most people on both sides identify themselves as monotheistic, religious legalists. As such, many of the topics they talk about are similar, but most of their differences are apparent.
Three major beliefs
Christianity, Islam, and Judaism are all monotheistic religions. However, they do differ in some important aspects. For example, Islam believes that the original revelations from God were changed. In contrast, Christianity believes that Jesus is the Messiah, the incarnated God, who came to guide the people of Israel. As a result, the three religions share some similarities, such as the belief in the one true God.
While Islam believes that Jesus was born of a virgin, Christianity believes that Jesus was the incarnate Son of God and was sinless. While both religions hold great respect for Jesus, Muslims do not believe that he died on the cross. As a result, Muslims do not believe that he was divine. In addition, Islam believes that each human is born without original sin or sinful characteristics. Unlike Christianity, Islam believes that sin is a result of human weakness and forgetfulness.
All three religions trace their roots to Abraham, who lived in the Near East. While Islam believes in one God, Christianity and Judaism believe in a trinitarian god. Although these religions have different views of Jesus, they acknowledge him as a prophet, and their respective prophets.
According to Islam, humans are created to worship God, and the prophets are sent to guide humans in their worship. According to Islamic tradition, God never abandons his creations. Instead, he provides guidance to bring us to salvation.
Family
Despite their close resemblance, Islam and Christianity have fundamental differences. For one, the Bible and the Quran differ on theological concepts that frame human relationship with Allah. The Quran has no concept of covenant, which is central to Christian theology. Furthermore, linguistic analysis of quranic Arabic words reveals that God does not enter into binding obligations with human beings. This means that there is no deeper affinity between Islam and Christianity.
Both Christianity and Islam are monotheistic religions. They claim to be descended from Abraham. The Quran also calls Christians and Jews “people of the Book.” The three monotheistic faiths share Abraham as their origins. According to Islam, both Abraham and his servant Hagar are the ancestors of Jesus. Moreover, Christians believe that God revealed himself to the Jews through Moses. Thus, Moses, Jesus, and Mary are commonly found in both Christian and Islamic faiths.
Faith in the virgin birth of Jesus
Islam and Christianity share a common belief in the virgin birth of Jesus, but their beliefs about Jesus are fundamentally different. For example, Islam views Muhammad as a prophet and the “comforter” in John 14:16 as Muhammad. The Holy Spirit, which Christians see as God’s ongoing presence, is not recognized by Muslims. This is an important distinction to make if one wants to understand the relationship between Islam and Christianity.
The Holy Qur’an has two versions of the Annunciation story. One story is known as the “Annunciation of Maryam,” which refers to the Virgin Mary. In fact, Mary is the only woman mentioned by name in the Qur’an. Muslim scholars regard Mary as the virgin mother of Jesus and acknowledge that she was the only woman to give birth to Jesus.
According to Christian scholars, the Quran supports the Christian belief that Jesus was born of a virgin and that His birth was unlike that of any other human. Additionally, the Quran cites a verse that implies the divinity of Christ. Parallelism is also present in the Quran, as the phrase “a sign unto men” is in the same verse as “a mercy from God.” Therefore, Muslims interpret Jesus’ birth as a sign of God’s mercy.
Islam and Christianity share faith in the virgin birth and Mary is the only woman mentioned by name in the Qur’an. Her parents were virtuous. They were devoted worshippers and had asked God for a son to dedicate to the temple. God gave them a daughter who could fulfill these requests.
